Who doesn't like a good fried fresh catfish sandwich? I know I do! Catfish is one of the most popular freshwater fish to eat. They are also one of the most fun fish to catch due to the different style used to catch them and how big they can get. For me I like to fish for them at around sundown and into the night. These fish will be more active as it starts to get dark and that's when you will have the most success catching them. For my setup I like to use a medium to heavy line on heavy spinner rod with a circle hook. The difference between a traditional hook and a circle one is exactly what you would think. The circle hook is in the shape of a circle like the name suggests. This is because for catfish fishing they need a heavier duty hook to hold the bait and the strength and weight of the catfish. My preferred bait to catch catfish is chicken liver. The smellier the bait the better for catfish. Catfish are bottom feeders and have poor eyesight so the more smelly the bait the better the catfish can find it. Once I get everything together I will usually bring multiple rods with the exact same setup and cast them all out and attach a bell to each one. The bell is for when it gets really dark and you cannot see the tip of the rod dip. The most popular catfish I catch is a channel cat. They are almost everywhere around my area and are the easiest and most abundant catfish.
