Fly Fishing

There are many different ways to fish and one I am going to talk about in this blog is fly fishing. Fly fishing is very different than the typical way of fishing. For fly fishing instead of the weight of the lure casting the line, the line casts the lure. The lure is also very different which they use artificial flys, bugs, and sometimes bait fish. Fly fishing is mostly done on top of the water. The rod is typically more flexible with less rod rings to get a better snap to cast the heavier line. The reel unlike on the typical spinner rod or bait caster isn't used for casting. To cast a fly the fisherman will pull out line from the reel then start snapping the fly forward then backward then forward again launching the fly in the direction where the fisherman wants to cast. This is very challenging for beginners and people who have been doing it for a while still will occasionally mess up. Once the lure is casted some typical techniques include jerking, popping, swimming, and jumping the bait. Most of the time fly fishing you will target trout, salmon, and bass. For trout and salmon you usually target them in the colder months due to them striking more often and that's when they are stocked. During the summer months you will see fly fishermen target bass. In the end the main point of fly fishing is to challenge the fisherman with a more challenging way of fishing that involves more skill and knowledge than the typical forms.
