For traditional everyday fishing anyone who has ever went out has most likely used a spinning rod to fish. These are the most popular rods due to them being out for decades and them being easy to use. Spinning rods are more of a finesse type of rod that use lighter lures to fish. You can find them in every fishing store across America. They can range from super light duty for catching bluegill and other small fish to a heavy duty trolling spinning rod meant for catching large predatory fish. As for Bait-casters they are more complex reel setup. They have gears and drag you can customize to get the best performance out of the reel depending on how heavy the lure you're using or what kind of fish you are targeting. Bait-casters are not an entry level reel and take time and practice to fully understand how they are used. Typically bass fishermen will use bait-casters due to how fast you can cast and recast. In my experience they are also a lot more accurate when I am trying to target a smaller area under a tree or a hard to reach place. In the end it just depends on your own personal preference and what type of fish you target. If you're an everyday fisherman that targets a wide scale of fish the spinner rod is your rod for fishing. If you are mainly a bass fisherman and like the sport of fishing I would recommend a bait-caster if you are serious about bass fishing.
